Job Description

This is a remote position for candidates already located in Wisconsin. We are seeking a highly skilled Platform Engineer to manage and optimize on-premise commercial applications built on the PERN stack (PostgreSQL, Express.js, React, Node.js). This role requires deep expertise in PostgreSQL administration, Linux systems, and automation, supporting scalable, secure deployments within a virtualized environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage PostgreSQL databases, including backups, replication, indexing, and performance tuning
• Deploy and maintain PERN stack applications on Linux VMs, including components like NGINX and PM2
• Monitor system availability and optimize infrastructure within a virtualized, on-prem environment
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Ansible
• Troubleshoot system, application, and infrastructure issues
• Apply Linux system hardening, data encryption, and access control per security best practices
• Collaborate on vulnerability management and apply necessary patches and updates
• Manage firewall configurations, RBAC, and support intrusion detection protocols
• Ensure alignment with data governance and compliance standards
• Support backup and disaster recovery planning and execution
• Provide ongoing technical support for platform-related issues
• Maintain accurate documentation for deployments, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures
• Assist with onboarding and training of developers and technical teams on platform tools and security protocols

Qualifications

• Advanced skills in PostgreSQL, including performance optimization, replication, and backups
• Proven experience deploying PERN stack applications in cloud or on-prem environments
• Strong familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Ansible)
• Scripting experience using Bash, Python, or similar languages
• Proficiency in Linux environments (e.g., Ubuntu, RHEL)

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior roles in IT infrastructure, DevSecOps, or SRE
• Experience with network security, including firewalls, VPNs, and SSH hardening
• Familiarity with identity and access tools such as OpenID Connect (OIDC), LDAP, Entra ID, Okta, or Active Directory
• Exposure to virtualization platforms like VMware or Hyper-V
